Christian Living Classes

CLC is a ministry of First Baptist Church that ministers to the high school age - adults. The purpose of CLC is to disciple the body of Christ through the teaching of Scripture. Each class is sourced in the inspired and authoritative Word of God and addresses one of the following three areas of study: exposition of various passages of Scripture, development of Christian theology, or the application of Scripture in practical Christian living. Some core classes are offered on a rotating basis, because we believe the material in these classes should be adequately grasped by every believer.

Session 2 (September 16 - December 9) (current session)

God and Government
This CLC class will focus on God’s relationship to government throughout Biblical history, starting with a discussion of government forms from the Old Testament through the early church. The class will also include a discussion of the Christian’s role in current political systems (i.e. the United States), and will Biblically examine issues including the kingdom of God, the Christian’s role as legislator, the separation of church and state, civil disobedience, and the application of being “in subjection to the governing authorities.” (Rom. 13:1)

How People Change
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” In How People Change, Dave Trepanier will take the class through a study on biblical sanctification. The class will look closely at what the Bible teaches concerning the nature and composition of man, what happens to a person at salvation, how sanctification happens, and what sanctification looks like in every day life. Can people really change? The Bible’s answer is a resounding yes.

Shepherding in the Family
Are you a parent? Do you feel like you have it all together when it comes to raising your kids to be responsible, compassionate and Spirit filled followers of Christ? You’re not alone if you struggle with making that a reality. Andy Hixon will lead us as we discuss Biblical principles that we can use to help our children be internally motivated instead of relying on external pressure. God has a wonderful plan for each of our kids, and we want each of you to be equipped to move them in that direction.
